MV Director speaks to BBC Asian Network about Channel crossings
On 12 August, MV Director Nazek Ramadan spoke live on BBC Asian Network about the arrival of a number of asylum seekers across the Channel, a topic that has dominated news coverage recently.
"We should not be seeing people risking their lives to get to the UK," she said. "There should be safe, legal routes for people to take... This is a small number of desperate people who cannot reach safety any other way."
On the recent media coverage, Nazek said: "It's not fair to parade people like this who are so vulnerable, who are so desperate... Listen to them, where are they? Where are their voices? Why not talk to them? Why not try to understand who they are and why they're here and making that journey?"
