Migrant Voice - MV member speaks to Birmingham Mail about his cancer battle and facing deportation

On 16 July, Birmingham Mail published an article interviewing Migrant Voice member Lewin Williams, 74, about being threatened with deportation by the Home Office - despite battling blood cancer and being unable to afford medical treatment in his home country of Jamaica.

Lewin, who has lived in the UK since 2003, told Birmingham Mail: "I can’t pay for the treatment and if the Home Office sends me back to Jamaica, I will die because I can’t afford it."

MV's Birmingham Network Worker Salman Mirza was also quoted in the article.

"Here we have an elderly man from Jamaica who has been in the UK for over 18 years and has cancer, how could any decent human being not want him to get life saving treatment," he told the newspaper.
