Migrant Voice - MV member talks to BBC West Midlands radio about battle to be British

On Sunday 1 September, MV member in Birmingham, Takesh Hibbert, was interviewed by Nikki Tapper on BBC West Midlands radio about her 30-year-battle to be recognised as British. Following recent coverage on Birmingham Live, faciliatated by MV, Takesh now has indefinite leave to remain, but this has not undone the suffering of the last three decades.

"You're like a stranger," Takesh told Nikki, speaking about the years when she was unsure of her status in the UK. "You're lost in the system."

She also said she wanted to raise awareness about the issue, as she knows she is "not the only one" who has suffered for years in an impenetrable, expensive system that makes it so hard for people to acquire legal status, even if it is their right.

Listen to Takesh here, from 27 minutes.
