 Migrant Voice - Speaking out

The Migrant Voice motto is ‘Speaking for Ourselves’ – and this is the driving force behind all our work. We create opportunities for our members to speak out publicly, to tell their stories and to be heard.

Media

More than 50 million people across the UK regularly get their news from mainstream media. That’s why we focus on creating opportunities for our members to speak out on these platforms – whether print, broadcast or digital.

We work to make sure the stories of our members are on the news agenda and we work closely with journalists to ensure that migrants are at the heart of the story. We support our members through the process of engaging with journalists, providing training and mentoring in how the media works and how to best communicate your story and message – as well as offering follow-up and support once the story is published.

Over the last decade, we have built many strong relationships with journalists across the UK, who trust us to provide reliable information and authentic voices for stories about migration. As a result, we are a go-to organisation for journalists working on such stories.

Policymakers

Sometimes, speaking directly to policymakers is the best way to make change happen. We work to create these opportunities and to prepare our members – whether it’s giving evidence to an All-Party Parliamentary Group, making a submission to a parliamentary inquiry, or meeting with their local MP.

Our platforms

We encourage our members to speak out on our website and social media platforms – whether it’s a blog, a video or a podcast. Where needed, we work with those who would like our support to develop and refine the idea and to edit the final product. As well as publishing work by individual members, we invite our members to interview each other for videos or articles or to combine their skills and work together on content for our platforms.

We often invite our members to create content around specific themes, such as International Migrants Day or Refugee Week.
