Migrant Voice - Citizenship Ban and the creation of ‘Systemic Statelessness’

Migrant Voice would like to invite you to join us and other community leaders for a network meeting, Citizenship Ban and the creation of ‘Systemic Statelessness’ on the recently announced changes to the ‘good character requirement’ for who can get citizenship. We will discuss the implications of this and what are our calls for change.

The meeting will take place online on Thursday 30 April,  6-7:30pm, Sign up here

This meeting will discuss the recently announced changes to the ‘Nationality: Good character requirements,’ which mean that individuals who arrived in the UK through irregular routes will be refused citizenship, regardless of how long ago they entered or whether they had no option but to take a dangerous route.

At this meeting we will look into the implications of this change, and discuss its legality and the legal repercussions.

We will discuss whether the lack of safe routes for people fleeing persecution and the new ‘Citizenship ban’ creates a system of ‘statelessness’ that violates the international laws and treaties the UK is a signatory of.

Speakers will be announced soon.
