Migrant Voice - Glasgow Media Lab

Migrant Voice is organising an online Media Lab on Monday 9 November, 6.30-8.30pm

The programme will include the following sessions:

Thistle and a Rose. We join with Havana Glasgow Film Festival for a poetry workshop with Félix Flores Varona. Want to learn about the connection between Scottish and Cuban poetry, and have fun writing some verses? Felix brings inspiration from Cuban poet José Martí and Scottish poet Robert Burns, both beloved and revered in their respective countries. Félix Flores Varona is the author of several books on translation studies and winner of numerous national and international literary prizes. His work centres on the Cuban national hero, journalist, philosopher and activist José Martí, and his links with various Scottish writers.

How to write to the Editor with Daniel Nelson. A veteran UK journalist who has worked across Bangladesh, Hong Kong, India, Nigeria, Uganda and the Philippines will lead a session on how to write letters to the Editor of a newspaper. He'll be sharing his top tips for making sure your letters get published.

As part of these sessions, we will also be talking about International Migrants' Day on 18 December and the messages we want to share on that day.

Scots and new Scots from all over the world - asylum seekers, refugees, and other migrants living in Scotland - join us online on Monday 9 November, 6.30-8.30pm, to learn media skills that will make your voices heard.

The Media Lab will take place on Zoom. Sign up for your free ticket here: https://medialabmigrantvoice_hgff.eventbrite.co.uk
