Come to our network meeting in Glasgow on Wednesday 1 May! We'll be discussing media coverage of migration in Scotland in preparation for a later meeting with some Scottish news editors.
As part of a national Migrant Voice project, we’re arranging meetings between some of our members and editors at major news outlets across the UK. This is the first time Migrant Voice is attempting to influence news coverage at this high level.
At the meeting on 1 May, we want to explore together views and issues we should be raising with those editors. Migrants from all backgrounds are welcome, including refugees and asylum seekers, as well as Scots who want to engage in changing the media debate on migration for the better.
We hope you can join us for this important meeting, to help us ensure that our first conversation with the editors is a success.
The meeting will be held from 6pm to 8pm at the Scottish Youth Theatre, 105 Brunswick Street, Glasgow G1 1TF. Refreshments will be available from 5.30pm.
If you’ve ever been frustrated by headlines such as “No end to migrant crisis” and “Halt the asylum tide now” – or by the fact that so few stories about migration include the voices of migrants – this is your chance to make a difference.
Are there enough migrant voices in the Scottish media? Do you want to see more positive stories about migration? Or more coverage of the problems migrants face? What stories about migrants in Scotland are missing from the media, and what is the Scottish media doing well?
We’ll be joined at the meeting by at least one Scottish journalist, as well as by Daniel Nelson (journalist and media consultant for Migrant Voice) and Judith Vonberg (Migrant Voice Communications Officer and former journalist).
We hope you can join us! Places are limited so please confirm your attendance by no later than Friday 26 April by emailing [email protected].
