Migrant Voice is organising a series of activities on the occasion of Migration week 2024 to highlight the necessity of having a more humane, responsible and positive approach to migration.
Migration week is a United Nations week dedicated to promoting dialogue on migration-related issues, based on the framework of what is known as the ‘Global Compact for Migration’.
We aim to highlight the approach that the UK has taken and the noticeable discrepancy between its global commitments and policies pursued at home.
In 2018 the UK, along with countries around the world, signed up to the Global Compact for Migration, designed to create a coordinated, global, approach to international migration. Join us for Migration Week as we look at how far it has distanced itself from those commitments, and how you can push your MPs to advocate for us moving back towards them.
Since the adoption of the agreement the UK has moved further away from its commitment to the principles of the Compact. The UK’s hostile policies and rhetoric are noticeable evidence of this.
As we draw closer to a General Election, migration is already being exploited for political gain, and migrants continue to be subjected to further hostilities.
Through our events, we aim to highlight the approach that the UK has taken and the noticeable discrepancy between its global commitments and policies pursued at home. We invite you to join us.
As part of our activities we are holding two events in the coming weeks:
Advocacy training
1 February - 5-7 pm
The training will be online via Zoom and will focus on advocacy around the UK immigration system. (How to contact decision makers and put your case forward). However, the skills and knowledge can be used for other forms of advocacy. To sign up for this training please follow this link
Round Table discussion
6 February 6-8pm
Our round table discussion will focus on current UK policies and rhetoric around migration and will explore the noticeable discrepancy between its global commitments and the policies pursued at home. The roundtable will be happening online via zoom. It will also be broadcast live on our facebook page. On the day there will be opportunities to share your views, experience on the topics raised.
