Migrant Voice held a network meeting focused on the situation for EU migrants on March 29th from 6.00-8.30pm at Centrala, Polish Expats Association, Unit 4, Minerva Works, 158 Fazeley Street, Birmingham, B5 5RT
The meeting heard the experiences of EU migrants, looked at the current situation after the triggering of Article 50, offered practical advice regarding the permanent residency application process, looked at what actions could be taken to fight for EU migrants rights, and how we can build support for migrants rights more broadly.
Guest speaker: Katie Fennell National Coordinator Kids in Need of Defense UK (KND). Katie will offer some practical advice on the permanent residency process and answer questions from the meeting.
Katie has been practicing immigration and asylum law for over 8 years working at Refugee and Migrant Justice and Coventry Law Centre, covering all areas of EU, asylum and UK immigration law and at Blakemore Solicitors. She is now the National Coordinator of Kids in Need of Defense UK, an innovative new project aimed at increasing capacity in the sector by training and supervising corporate lawyers so that they can provide end to end representation to migrant and UK born children in their immigration and citizenship matters.
Guest speaker: TBC from New Europeans will update us on the latest from their campaigns for the rights for EU nationals and let us know how we can get involved.
We will also gather evidence at the meeting to feed into the ongoing inquiry of the Committee on Exiting the EU.
All are welcome - this meeting is not only for EU nationals - we need to work together to fight for all our rights and make our voices heard.
