Migrant Voice Zoom Network Meeting:
Impact of COVID-19 on BAME communities - Share your views and experiences for a House of Commons inquiry
Thursday 2 July 2020 | 4-6pm (GMT / UK time)
This meeting is organised to ensure our voices are heard. The experiences shared at the meeting will feed directly into an inquiry of the House of Commons’ Women and Equalities Committee: Unequal Impact? Coronavirus and BAME people.
This is your opportunity to have your thoughts feelings and experiences relayed to the corridors of parliament to make effective policy change.
Joining us at the discussion will be:
* Juma Begum, Centre Manager, Birmingham Asian Resource Centre
* Loraine Masiya Mponela, Chairperson, Coventry Asylum and Refugee Action Group (CARAG)
* Jacques Matensi-Kubanza, Chair of African speaking Community Support.
The House of Commons’ Women and Equalities Committee has launched the ‘Coronavirus and the impact on people with protected characteristics inquiry’.
In the next phase of this inquiry, the Committee has focused its approach on three sub-inquiries, one of which is ‘Unequal Impact? Coronavirus and BAME people.’ This sub-inquiry will explore the pre-existing inequalities that made BAME communities more vulnerable to the effects of the pandemic and hear the impacts on BAME people during the pandemic through understanding people’s lived experiences.
The Committee is particularly keen to hear from those with lived experience. The Committee is currently calling for written evidence submissions for this sub-inquiry.
Migrant Voice's Zoom network meeting will be recorded in order to help write up our submission to the inquiry but all contributions will be anonymised. You can opt out at any time and can anonymise your contribution on the day.
*** Please email [email protected] to confirm your attendance and you will be sent the Zoom joining details. ***
