Migrant Voice - New 'Living Together' report

A new publication by The Open Society Foundations, Living Together: Projects Promoting Inclusion in 11 EU Cities is intended to serve as a resource for local and national governments, policymakers, practitioners, civil society actors, and others working on social inclusion of minorities and marginalized groups in Europe. This second edition has 27 new initiatives, policies, and projects that seek to help and support socially excluded communities, or address similar issues faced by other groups. The countries included are Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. The guide is divided into chapters on identity, belonging and interaction, education, employment and training, housing, health, policing and security, participation and citizenship, and the role of the media. It includes an urban sports project in Copenhagen to empower youth and prevent marginalization, a youth trade union in the Netherlands whose goal is to lower the unemployment rate among young people with an ethnic-minority background and a theater training program in Antwerp which works to promote the participation and inclusion of ethnic minorities in the cultural sector. Some of the examples were identified as part of advocacy activities following the At Home in Europe’s Muslims in EU Cities reports and some through meetings across Europe with actors who work to challenge and resolve inequalities, discrimination, and marginalization of other groups at local and national level.
