Migrant Voice - Member writes op-ed for major Bangladesh newspaper

On 10 June, The Daily Sun (a major English-speaking newspaper in Bangladesh) published an opinion piece by Migrant Voice member Wahidur Rahman.

Wahidur writes about the strained relationship between Bangladesh and its diasporas during the Covid-19 pandemic and warns that the impact could go on far beyond the end of the pandemic.

"Bangladesh – which always welcomed us before – has turned hostile," he wrote. "The unwelcoming messages from Bangladeshis have been excruciating. It breaks my heart to see the offensive, derogatory language on the banners, cemetery gates, and shop notice boards, calling for a ban on the entry of diasporas. Words are powerful, words can inspire, words can destroy. The urge to return to the homeland has turned into a nightmare for diasporas."
