On 16 February, Birmingham Live published an article about a Migrant Voice campaign to prevent member Espoir being sent back to Cameroon, where she would face persecution for her sexuality.
At the time of writing, the #IAmEspoir petition had more than 800 signatures and dozens of supporters have been posting photos of themselves on social media, declaring their support.
"All you need to do is type in Espoir Njei and she's all over the web," said Salman Mirza, Birmingham Network Worker for MV, who kickstarted the campaign. "She's one of the leading LGBT campaigners in the Midlands if not the UK, it's madness not to grant her stay."
